(inter)National Scrapbooking Day 2021

Hello Lovelies, and Happy iNSD!

I have a project (with process video) to share with you all on this very exciting day for papercrafty types!

There is a YouTube hop with lots of creative girls sharing layouts with the theme "For the Love of Scrapbooking".  Scroll down for the link to my process video whre you can find the full like up to the Blog Hop in the description Box. 

Also, Sara Scraps has rounded up a collaboration of three Facebook groups where making one challenge will put you in the running across all three groups for a ton of prizes (aptly named the One Challenge Wonder)!

I ended up combining the two since I was a bit uncertain how I'd fare time (and energy) wise. 

One Challenge Wonder requires a little more explanation, so here are the deets...
Create a layout based on the sketch Sara has created using your stash, and incorporating sequins.

Bonus entry for prizes if you also incorporate a cut file.
To qualify:

You must be a member of Rediscover Your Stash 

Spread The Sparkle and Cut To You HQ Facebook groups.

Post your layout in each group’s  One Challenge Wonder Album.

All Entries due by May 7th.

Winners will be chosen and announced no later then May 8th.

Here is where the wonder comes in...that one layout gets you an entry for 10-15 different prizes.

Most of the sponsors have offered multiple prize packs and gift cards.

Sara has donated 4 $5 ACOT gift cards as prizes as well...so there are TONS of prizes to be given out for this ONE challenge/project.

 

In addition, there will be some relaxed fun and games in RYS where each of us will share our project and entertain you while you take a break from the frenetic pace of some of the other Facebook groups.  All times are in EDT (think New York)

September Back to School YouTube Hop

Hello Lovelies!

I'm here with a special project!

This is an annual collaboration started by Sara Scraps.  It's my second time playing along and it;s so much fun - not to mention a great opportunity to add some pages in Max's rather neglected school album.

The theme this year is "What Does School Look Like For You?" and despite that in the southern hemisphere we aren't starting school (in fact my day to post on the hop is also Max's last day of Term 3 for 2020) it's still a very relevant topic.

Since there are so many ladies taking part this year, Sara has divided up into 4 days and I'm on Day 2.  Several girls are having giveaways so I will link the entire line up below and the channels with giveaways are marked.

The videos are scheduled to go live each day at 9am EST (US that is!) or 11pm EST if you're in Aus.

Stick it Down DT July Layout using FLHK kit

Hello Lovelies

I'm not sure whether I've mentioned here on the blog that I'm joining the crew over at Stick It Down!  I love using scrapbook sketches so I was pretty excited about playing with these girls!

I'm using my July For The Love Of Homemade Kits supplies to put this layout together.  You can find more on that in the description box of my video.

The sketch was a bit different for me as I mention in my process video (scroll down!).  The titles placement and embellies on just one part of the page forced me (most willingly!) out of my comfort zone!

Stick it Down Single Page Challenge

This one is packed with dimensional embellies of all sorts and to adhere anything (especially anything requiring some extra strength) to mixed media calls for Permanent Glue Dots! 😍😍😍

If you watch the video and compare the finished layout there to the still photos, you may notice I moved all the tiniest enamel stars and lightning bolts.  🙈🙈🙈

While I am happier with them after the change, this page one one that took on a life of its own and I'm not sure how pleased I am with it. 

It's definitely not what I pictured in my head, but the crazy energy definitely reflects the story of two crazy energetic little girls who would barely stand still long enough to pose for a couple of photos!

Hello Lovelies!

Yes I know we're well into July.  But you know I love a good fashionably late entrance, right?  Weeell a combination of dire technical straits (like losing a complete, edited video😭😭😭) and helping a certain TallCraftyDude cram for exams. 😒😒😒
 
He totally sucked me in when he said something along the lines of: "I really should have spend more time in Class and less time on Discord during remote learning, shouldn't I, Mama?"

So the inspo chosen for June was this gorgeous chevron made of half square triangles.  I decided to use a cut file for the heart, except you can't tell now that it's all done.  Oh well! 🤷

This quilt reminded me of some Paige Evans does with all her collections, so I printed off a few examples which I show in the video and take some of my inspo from there.  Thank you, Paige!


This design was ideal for using the little 2x2 inch swatch books that are unique to Paige's collections.  It was a good place to start.  Being exam-weary, I didn't have much energy to overthink things so I used mostly supplies from Paige Evans collections.  I think I got a little bit from each of them except Take Me Away and maybe Oh My Heart.


Thank goodness for Glue Dots helping thinks stick to machine stitching, but also after many many pulling up and putting down attempts. (you have no idea how many hours of raw video footage is me doing exactly that! 🤦🤦🤦)
 


Naturally after it was finished I couldn't stop myself fiddling with it, so I added a bunch of rub-ons from the Whimsical rub on sheet.  Mostly faux stitching to go along with the tone-one-tone embellie placement.  And yes, the rub-ons worked just fine!

I don't know what my parents were thinking when they gave her a name with THREE Es!  Didn't they consider one day someone would be trying to spell it with Thickers (and the highly sought after vowels would cause their eldest child much angst??😂)

Quilter's Vibe May Layout

Well hello there Lovelies!

Time for another QV and the inspo quite was chosen by Christy from Christy's Beautiful Life.  I'm sure I don't need to tell you what I think of it, right?  🤣🤣🤣

Daisie probably isn't playing this month.  She's a busy frontline worker for which we are extremely grateful.

Sara, Christy and I all made very different layouts.  This is one thing that's so fun about this series!  I've linked to all their YouTube channels below so please go see what they made too!

As I mentioned in my video, upon seeing this inspiration piece I thought of a beautiful quilt made for me by some online friends and some photos reminded me of Fitzy's predilection for sleeping fully or partly under a blanket.  I've wanted to document this strange habit of his for some time.  While the photo I used is one of the cutest examples, it doesn't totally illustrate the way he crawls under til he's in the middle of the bed.


I'm still trying to get the editing to be the way I want and I'm not fully there yet.  Since much of this layout required repetitive action, more than usual is on fast forward.

I ended up adding gems which I forgot to add in the process video and yes I still forgot to add the date! 🤦  I did show the process of fake "stitching" eleventy billion buttons to the page with Glue Dots!  Watch the video and see how!

Layout "Podolianochka" (For the Love of Homemade Kits Feb Layout 2)

Hello Lovelies!

Here I am a few days late with my first layout and process video for February For the Love of Homemade Kits!

If you missed my kit share post you can find it here along with links to the printable etc, and you can read about Layout 1 which I made with the kit last week.  It also had a Ukrainian vibe to it.

FTLHK Layout 2 Process Video

 

This one was a challenge from the outset.  Firstly, the circular design on the paper is one that intimidates me, but I was keen to use it, since the flowers and circle are rather representative of the dance.

My initial thought was to pile more die cut and dimensional flowers from the die cut packs in my kit, but I couldn't get it to work.  At least the painty splatter looked OK.  Rather enthusiastically applied, but not too bad!

 

Some of the paint was quite lumpy, so the layers immediately in contact with the background needed to be adhered with Glue Dots.  I used Mini Glue Dots to adhere the chipboard Thickers for the titles.  The surgery for THOSE didn't quite go to plan either!

I had trouble getting a Ukrainian letter "D" (the third letter in the name of the dance above) so I used an English lowercase "G" which looks a bit like a lowercase handwritten "D",  Not perfect. but definitely in the spirit of the ABC Scrappy challenge!

The journaling ended up being a bit more extensive than I first thought, so the circle ended up virtually full.

 

I'm not totally sold on the orange "dance like no-one is watching_ die cut, because the orange is slightly jarring, but this was a great time to use it so I'm going to be happy to live with it.
