The Paper Girls Challenge #209 - Weddings

Hello Lovelies!  

 

It's challenge time again over at The Paper Girls Challenge Blog and I'm hosting Challenge #209 so I'd really love it if you played along!  The theme is Weddings since the NotPinkCraftyHubster and I will be celebrating TWENTY YEARS 😱😱😱in two days (on the 7th)!  

That's almost a life sentence and there's no-one else I'd rather be serving it with. 😘😘😘

If you are taking Shimelle's Start with a Sketch class my layout is based on sketch #13.1.  Co-incidentally, Shimelle actually shared this one on her Insta just a few days ago!

I'm using my September For the Love of Homemade Kits kit (as I did for The Paper Girls Challenge #208 which I didn't blog, so I'll do it in this post!). 

Instead of two photos, I used just one which gave me room for a longer title and plenty of journaling.  I meant to do a process video for this one and my last TPG challenge, but life and adulting got in the way.  I'll do a layout share instead sometime soon so watch out for that!

Cut files are one element which I'm trying to use repeatedly in my wedding album and this floral wreath by Paige Evans had what looked (at least to me) like roses and hypericum berries like we had in our flowers!

Shimelle's version uses backs fewer elements of the cut file and fewer "sprinkly bits", but I always love more and being a wedding album layout means I can do more!

I sprinkled gold mist on the cut file first and some of the leaves are backed with the dictionary print vellum from the kit.  I also ended up sacrificing more of that moon paper being the most perfect watercolour for the roses and I love the feint scripty text as an added bonus.  I also tried to make the berries look like the hypericum I desperately wanted in the bouquets.  The extra effort was well worth it!

I just don't know how Shimelle managed to fit two photos, a title and all her journaling in the same space!  I definitely had to be a bit creative in trying to get my title in.  I could have left it out but I felt it kind of tied into the story.  I did have have to pull in three different small alphas not in the kit (and of course the enamel dots)

Want more wedding inspiration?

Here's my layout for Paper Girls Challenge 208.  It uses photos from out pre-wedding photo shoot.  The paper at the top reminded me of the wrought iron in the picture and I really wanted to use that fun red paper from Love Elsie.  The layout as a whole didn't exactly turn out the way I hoped, but it's ok.  I also "cheated" by bringing in the red flocked Thickers, but they did come out of my huge wedding album kit of supplies.

The third project (which I actually made second) from my September FLHK does have a process video.  

I did have to bring in the background paper, which wasn't in the kit, but I explain a bit more about that in the process video.  

 This was created for September's Quilter's Vibe collaboration.

It also uses a cut file by Paige Evans, but with a very different look to it.

The Paper Girls Challenge DT Project #205 Summer Dreams

Hello Lovelies

It's time for Challenge #205 over at The Paper Girls.  The theme is "Summer Dreams" so I thought my July "For the Love of Homemade Kits" kit would be perfect since it definitely had a summery vibe to it.

The next thing that inspired the page design was the return of Shimelle's "Starting Points" in this Facebook Live video.  It was lots of fun and made the page happen faster than it might otherwise have done.

Stick it Down DT July Layout using FLHK kit

Hello Lovelies

I'm not sure whether I've mentioned here on the blog that I'm joining the crew over at Stick It Down!  I love using scrapbook sketches so I was pretty excited about playing with these girls!

I'm using my July For The Love Of Homemade Kits supplies to put this layout together.  You can find more on that in the description box of my video.

The sketch was a bit different for me as I mention in my process video (scroll down!).  The titles placement and embellies on just one part of the page forced me (most willingly!) out of my comfort zone!

Stick it Down Single Page Challenge

This one is packed with dimensional embellies of all sorts and to adhere anything (especially anything requiring some extra strength) to mixed media calls for Permanent Glue Dots! 😍😍😍

If you watch the video and compare the finished layout there to the still photos, you may notice I moved all the tiniest enamel stars and lightning bolts.  🙈🙈🙈

While I am happier with them after the change, this page one one that took on a life of its own and I'm not sure how pleased I am with it. 

It's definitely not what I pictured in my head, but the crazy energy definitely reflects the story of two crazy energetic little girls who would barely stand still long enough to pose for a couple of photos!

Layout "All My Girls" (For the Love of Homemade Kits Feb Layout 1)

Hello Lovelies!

Here I am a few days late with my first layout and process video for February For the Love of Homemade Kits!

If you missed my kit share post you can find it here along with links to the printable etc

This one was based off a sketch challenge during January's Spending Freeze freeze (a biannual tradition) over at Sara Scraps' Rediscover your Stash Facebook Group.  Naturally in my non conformist style, I'm starting the challenges (that accompany the Spending Freeze) in February.  Natch!




One was a selection of 4 sketches chosen by Sara and this one seemed so perfectly suited to my photos!

Unfortunately more than one thing went a little bit wrong during the shooting of my video, so I will try to improve on all those things next time!  I'm as frustrated as you are and awfully sorry about the whole debacle!

 

Layout 1 FTLHK Process Video

I'm definitely going to have to go back over some words in my journaling in black.  I always make the mistake of going over the grey a second time and the grey is just a bit too light for my liking.  If I do the same to important words I'll make it look more purposeful.  No biggie. 🤷

So I said I'd make it look more purposeful, right?  Adding tiny labels to the most offending words and some others - either random or (as in this case) key words suddenly takes he attention away from the mistakes.  By drawing even more attention to them.  Go figure!!

The embellishment clusters seemed to take me so so long.  I just couldn't get them how I wanted them at first.  I think I got there in the end.

It's probably important to note that a regular adhesive probably wont have enough hold over an uneven or rough surface so you need something stronger.  My personal preference is Glue Dots.  I'm not on very good terms with liquid glue. 🙈

  

Of course after the camera is switched off I look at the page and add more.  Including a really badly stamped stamp under the date! 🤦 I fixed it as best I could with a pen, but whatever!

What I am happy with is how I pretty much stuck to the kit and how all the small details reflect my thoughts about the photos and story even if they don't mean anything to anyone else.

New Series - For The Love of Homemade Kits

This was a series stared a few years ago by Hannah Lemieux (I believe) and then went on a break.  By popular demand Hannah. Khristina Sorge  and a few others revived it in 2020, then a bunch of others (including yours truly) jumped on the bandwagon too.

Each month we present a kit based on a recipe (which is turned into a really beautifully presented printable thanks to Khristina,  You can find it here: February Printable

The kit shares go up on YouTube on the first of every month then each Monday we share a layout made from the kit.

From the outset I know I need to get 4-5 layouts from the kit, so that helps a lot with quantities.  It's not as crazy huge as my CKC kits, BUT it does have "extra" items besides those in the recipe.  What can you do? 🤷🤷🤷

You know what I'm like!

I have to confess that I didn't get around to photographing the kit before I realized I had to cut into it for the first layout of the month which is shared on Mondays.

It's now Tuesday and I only just remembered I had this blog post saved and forgot to share,  Yep it's going to be an interesting week!
