Stick It Down April DT Layout (Single Page Team)

Hello Lovelies

It's Stick It Down time once again and can I just say how much I really REALLY loved this month's single page sketch!!

My first thought was to use a cut file.  Pretty sure there are several out there which have flowers already built into a heart.  I decided instead to roughly machine stitch a heart and fussy cut flowers.

The sketch reminded me of a wedding or anniversary layout so I opted to scrap our 20th wedding anniversary, which was a case of Murphy's Law at work if ever I saw one!   Read the journaling! 😂

Seriously - you just can't make this stuff up!  And I'm often in these situations so I just laugh about them now.

Embellies

I used the Hello Today and Quarantined collections both by Simple Stories.  Great colours and a vintage vibe which reminded me of our wedding and played beautifully with three different papers by October Afternoon which I fussy cut and used to create the cluster along with some stickers of the "Rona" bug, some chipboard shapes and brads.  The plastic bow is an old Dear Lizzy one!

Can you believe only the mint green mat behind the photo is the only paper that was a single 12 x 12 pattern on both sides?  All the others were either cut apart cards or the B-Side of a cut apart sheet.  I punched the individual "Ronas" from the back of a card I didn't think I was going to use.

I chopped and re glued the month card and circled the date which is a sort of a nod to our wedding album where I'd try use the numbers 7 and 10 on each page.

Journaling

I deliberately chose the ledger paper which was the B side to one of the Hello Today cut apart sheets.  Perfect for writing and reminded me of a hospital chart.  The inside of the heart gave me plenty of room for a longer story.

Title

I used a card from one of the cut apart sheets as the title and a subtitle with small stickers from the sticker book on a clipboard from the chipboard sheet.

Stick It Down Layout for March

Hello Lovelies

It's Stick It Down time again and the sketch this month is by Antonia.  Head on over to the Stick It Down Blog to add your own project!
I loved the diagonal details on the sketch, but my style is pretty heavy on paper!

Sara Scraps came to my rescue when she shared this layout of her son and I thought I could apply the general idea to the sketch.  She even dared me to keep it clean and simple! 😂😂😂

Now I'm not a girl to resist a dare, but even I know when something is a lost cause! 🙈🙈🙈

I started by going though my camera roll for a pair of photos and a story.  Facebook memories helped by reminding me it's been 3 years since this even for JDM car enthusiasts and while the story probably is more recent, it doesn't make a huge difference to album chronology.

Having figured out my story, I had to include black and a very specific shade of blue.  I ended up pulling mostly papers from Shimelle's Sparkle City collection with a background from Glitter Girl.  the black paper with neon signs had me thinking of drifting so the one from the paper pad with the holographic was a great place to start!  The ombre background paper reminded me of the duochrome paint finish on some cars.

It was going to be a bit busy so I toned it down with gesso and added paint and mist splatters.  I even had some prehistoric Flutterbies from American Crafts.  Hands up who still has those?  Bunting kind of goes with an even like this and the one I used which was meant to co-ordinate with Dear Lizzy's 5th and Frolic collection is a great colour match for the black neon sign paper!

I also used some Simple Stories Bro and Co for the stamp set, stickers and die cuts.

Title

Chipboard and foam thickers for the title - Micro Glue Dots make the chipboard ones a breeze to adhere! (Thanks Columbus Trading❤️)

Embellies

In addition to some stamps for the diagonal embellies, I also used some clear and cardstock stickers and random car themed die cuts and stickers.

SID DT Layout for January

Hello Lovelies!

This month our sketch for the Stick it Down Single Page Team is by the lovely Antonia and I REALLY love it!

I can't tell you how I came to chose Book Week for this layout, but I did and what better way to use all the fun and whimsical images from Shimelle's Head in The Clouds and Never Grow Up collections.

Aren't childhood stories all about the dragons and unicorns and mermaids and all those fun things?

I decided to use one of those really REALLY hard to use background papers with a "scene" on them.  Just because I could I guess.  Few of my stories (at least so far) seem to lend themselves to them so I tried not to re-think my decision and just jump in.

I picked the one from the paper pad.  It has the coppery foil accents which make it a bit more special.  I backed it with the burgundy heard paper to tie in the other main colour in the layout (my nieces certainly are stretching me trying to make me use green and burgundy on the same page!).

I do confess to gutting it which I rarely do simply because I love it so much and wasn't sure if I'd want it for mats or embellies.

I opted to literally interpret the instax style frames in the sketch since I have a huge box of them which don't often get used.  Every time feels like a win for me.

I was going to gesso the paper under the pics so the embellies wouldn't look so crazy.  It dried more opaque than it usually does, but most ended up covered anyway.  I figured this could be the part of the sketch that shows stenciled paste or ink.

Perfect colours for the first three words taken from two Paige Evans thickers sets and the rest from Shimelle's Never Grow Up Thickers

Embellies

Loads of stickers and die cuts and one or two chipboard bits.   I also fussy cut some books from a Head in the Clouds Up patterned paper.
Lots and lots of Glue Dots (Thanks Columbus Trading!❤️) for sticking down stickers which have been put down and peeled up so many times they might as well have been die cuts!

Enamel pearls and excessive white mist splatter to finish.  Of course!

Mulan and the Green Sheep

Stick It Down DT Layout for December

Hi Lovelies!

I did an oopsie and just discovered this post didn't autopublish! 🤦🏼‍♀

Anyways it's the final sketch challenge over at Stick It Down for 2020!  How did we end up in December?  For some reason this year has flown by so quickly!

I know it sounds nuts, but it's just the way it is for me!

For this sketch, I flipped it over on its side once I picked three photos.  I had a set of four of Fitzy grabbing a pawful of diecuts, shove them in his mouth and start to eat them! I literally had to fish them out of his mouth!

I LOVE colour and the grey cat on a brown sofa in the pics was just meh so a riot of colour was the very thing!

I think I was still on a craft cat vibe so I was thrilled to be able to use this amazing paper from Paige Evans' Whimsical collection.  I have previously fussy cut an entire sheet, but I wanted to be able to use it on a layout too and show off all those little crafty images.

I added a large vertical strip in a contrasting colour (a navy from Page's newest collection (Go the Scenic Rout).  The colours of the two go really well together.

I decided to stick with Paige's papers since I was already there and used the paper pads (they seem to be easier to come by than individual sheets here) to layer up a paper stack under each photo and a few under the title, journaling and embellie box.

A couple of round die cuts from Go the Scenic Route was a nod to the sketch's original circles and I used paper strips in two places.

I dripped some of Dina Wakely's Gloss Spray, but only some of them looked glossy.  Still, I felt the messy look added to the feel of the page

I found some word strips from sticker sheets, cut from paper and die cuts which related to crafting (or eating as the top right goes) since I kind of imagine Mr Fitz doing his own version of crafting.

The coppery text of the small sticker on eating made me grabbed copper hearts and some old candy dots to finish

To make a third circle, I cur one out of patterned paper and pulled alphas from Shimelle and Amy Tangerine to squeeze the title in such a small space

Cat Lovers Hop Project #6 and Stick It Down November DT Layout

Hello Lovelies

I know some of you are here from the

Cat Lovers Hop and others from Stick It Down so bear with me!

November was my turn to be a "featured" designer on the SID sketch reveal, so mine is ready before the single page team reveals their work (typically the second week of the month).

I'll get onto the sketch and all that in a minute.  Before I do I want to say that while the official Cat Lover Hop is finished,  I'm still making projects since I'm not closing my giveaway until Friday, so please keep following me on m socials to get a heads up for new projects and chances to win.

OK so this month's sketch for Stick It Down's single page design team looked like this:

I never need an invitation to scrapbook cats and this one touches a little on our 'Rona experience and the story is short so I may end up writing a much longer one as an insert, but basically we didn't stockpile anything.  We just don't have that "me first" mentality.

Nobody was sure what would happen in the early days so I can understand to an extent.  Friends with a large family gave us some stuff "just in case".  We were able to return the favour when some of NotPinkCraftyHubster's restaurant social media clients offered to include us in their commercial orders of flour and yeast so we bought a 12.5kg (almost 28lb?) bag of flour and 500g/1lb bag of dry yeast for ourselves and the family who insisted Andrew take some stuff that they probably couldn't spare but wouldn't take no for an answer.  We knew it would be ok and it was.

Ophelia aka Pheeps aka PhiPha has mixed feelings about the relatively empty shelves and our pitiful stockpiling efforts.  No cat treats and just small quantities of staples that we have on hand anyway!  OTOH she does like hanging out on shelves so there's that!

The first thing I realised was that in order to accommodate the image with Pheephs facing to the right, I'd have to mirror the sketch.  Not a problem!  It was a pretty easy change to make.

Since I wasn't feeling 100% so I kept things simple.  I started by looking at the two covid themed/inspired collections by Photoplay.  I decided early on to fussy cut some of the rainbows to use in place of the stars since rainbows are a sort of lockdown symbol during the 'Rona (think Rainbow Trail).  I also wanted to incorporate some of the toilet paper images party because that's what everyone was hoarding and partly because I'm really an 11 year old boy trapped in a middle age woman's body and I fund stuff like that much funnier than it should be!

Next I needed paper layers.  I wanted something other than white for the background and since y Amy Tangerine Late Afternoon paper pad was nearby I grabbed one from there.

The colours in the photo are dark and brooding, aren't they?  I wanted something bright to set them off, yet at the same time keeping that feel.  Late Afternoon was doing that for me, but I needed something to bridge the gape between it and the very cartoony any lighthearted Photoplay.  Shimelle's woodgrain from Never Grow Up was perfect.  I wanted a woodgran anyway as a nod to the wooden shelves.

In the end, other than the rainbows and some fussy cut TP and word motifs, I didn't end up using the Photoplay,  It's OK cos it was part of the overall process.

The rainbow paper in the background and the actual rainbows made me want to make a stack of photo mats in the rainbow colours!  And a fat stack it was too, but I love love love layering up paper!

I added an extra cluster of embellies above the pic and jornaling across the top.  I threw on a few non paper embellied and goldmist sprinkles as an afterthough.

In the quest to find a substitute for my rapidly dwindling bottle of "Heidi Shine", I tried the Kaisercraft gold mist and so far it's the closest in colour, opacity and viscosity so I think we have a winner!
