2021 Cat Hop Day 3

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED!  THANKS FOR ENTERING!

Hi Lovelies

So it's probably time I shared a project with you created specifically for the hop, right?

This one uses a digital image by Ike's Art who has been sponsoring the Cat Hop for all 7 years!  Thank You Ike!

This year Janis will feature one of six images each day and today it's the Cheshire Cat.  I LOVE Alice in Wonderland so I was excited to work with it, although having not picked up a marker in probably a year I was very much out of practice.

I felt I couldn't get the colour blends I really wanted and that does come down to having more colours in my collection, but what really bothered me was my light source an shading.  Colouring stripes and getting that right is way harder than it looks!  In hindsight I would have used a greylead pencil and shaded an image as a guide as to where I wanted the shadows and highlights.

I pulled out what little I could find of the two Alice themed collections by Echo Park and did the best I could.  Of course I found the rest later after I was done. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Please don't forget to register with Janis and all the info and links you need can be found on Janis's MAIN HOP PAGE

  1. Fantastic card, Alex! Love your color combo and that image is just too funny. Fabulous coloring, too. :-D So glad to share the guest designing with you this year to help Janis. Hugs from another cat lover.
Oh, nearly forgot - yes, I've had three different black cats who have 'owned' me (because we all know that no human ever truly owns a cat!) but right now none of my 3 cats are blackies. However, I'm currently a great-nana to my granddaughter's 2 black cats, both of whom are gentle, cuddle cats, needing to be on, beside, or in the lap of the nearest human. I often babysit them in my home when granddaughter is gone for a long weekend and I love them dearly. My 3 are a bit put out when the 'cousins' come for a visit but they get over it quickly enough. :-D

  2. Hello, Alex! Thank you so much for Guest Designing for Janis - your card is GORGEOUS! You did an awesome job with your colouring - Ike's image is so cute and fun! I haven't been blogging for awhile but I dusted off my blog for the hop. Thank you for your generosity in awarding these prize - I would love to be in the drawing! I already follow you on all of your social media. As for a black cat, I have never owned one. I have always gravitated towards tabbies with a white throat or belly and we've also had a pure white cat. We only have one cat remaining, having lost our white kitty Snowie in February and Kiwi last November. Thank you for all you are doing for this hop - please know you are appreciated! Sending love and hugs!

  6. Okay, one more time. Sorry. I'm numbers 65 and 93. First, I love your card and call dibs on it. It's so cute. The colors are perfect. I did subscribe to your YT and blog. I don't have social media other than my blog. We did have a black cat. I think the best thing was that it was our first real pet. I was little and that was many years ago. Thank you for helping Janis with the hop and remember if that cat needs a home I have a spot for him. Plus, no allergic reactions either. [Bunny]

I have not had a black cat. My neighbor has 2 of them and sometimes the one named Rochester comes over to my yard for a visit.

  8. The card making world has some wonderful people. Thanks so much for helping Janis with the hop. Terrific card with this great image. My black cat only likes to sit on my lap, not my husband's.

  9. Fabulous card, Alex!! I can't thank you and Connie enough for stepping in to help with Guest Designing. I love what you did with Ike's image. Old Chessy looks great in Purple!! What a super-fun card...and great papers!
I am thinking about linking up a project of my own although not for one of our sponsor prizes...just to have it in the Hop for people to come and look at. :) I don't know when or what number it will be, though. I gotta try to stay one step ahead of my daily posts!! Ha.
I am a follower on your IG, FB, and YouTube!
Many thanks for offering these sweet prizes, Alex! They make our Hop even more fun.
Thank you for all your help and participation in the 2021 Cat Lovers Hop. Yay!!

    1. Oh, man...A huge long comment and I STILL forgot to talk abt black cats!! Yes, we have 3 of them: Othello, Andromeda, and Jetta. Before my son was smitten with Siamese, he was a black cat collector. :) Love the mysterious beauty of their eyes being the only facial features you can see from a distance. Our Othello, in particular, has the most intelligent and expressive huge golden eyes...he understands everything we say! Doesn't necessarily do what we tell him, but he knows what we are saying! lol... <3

  10. Wow, I can't believe you feel like your coloring and shading didn't come out the way you liked because this is AMAZING!! This dancing Cheshire Cat looks like he's the life of the party..but not sure I'd want him staying at my house, lol. As for black cats, I've never had one but I love all cats. My favorite thing about black cats are their eyes, because they really stand out against the dark fur.
Thank you for the chance to win your giveaway. I follow you in all ways listed and have entered my cards on the hop. I'll list the project numbers later.

  14. I noticed your Purple Cheshire cat right away and wanted to get a closer look. LOVE the Alice papers and beautiful coloring. My coloring skills are still in infancy, so I am always checking out projects for tips on shading etc.
We have a black cat who visits the yard on occasion, but my senior dog usually chases it away. He only lives two houses down and we know the owner, so he's just fine!

    1. My eyes are totally not cooperating, as I didn't see the question again. We have one black kitty, P.J., and then a tortishell, Miley, and two kitties that visit (Nipsy), one is black, and the other is Black and White (Tux), a tuxedo cat. Black cats are so beautiful and shiny, and every black cat I have ever had has been a sweetie!

  16. Well. I think your coloring is awesome! And I love that fun cat.
Gorgeous, colorful card and I love it. Our furry friend, Anna Banana,
is black with lots of gold highlights! She's an outdoor kitty who has
'coffee' with us in the morning and 'tea' in the afternoon with her
real owners - as her owners put it. lol We just ALL belong to her!! I'm
sure she goes across the street for dessert. haha
